Mistral releases downloadable weights for its trillion-parameter Large 4 model
Mistral has released the weights of Large 4, the learned numbers behind the model, so organisations can run it on their own hardware. Mistral says Large 4 ties China's GLM-5.3 on a coding test but uses 47% fewer tokens, the text chunks models process. The Decoder notes an independent ranking by Artificial Analysis puts it behind Chinese open models, including DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GLM-5.3, overall.
Why it matters: Organisations that want a capable coding model on their own servers gain another option they can fully control.

Reports say OpenAI's funding round falls short of its $30 billion goal
The Financial Times reports OpenAI has cut its target for the round to $20 billion, down from $30 billion. The Wall Street Journal reports the company has raised about $11 billion so far, with a lukewarm response from some large investors. Earlier reports had put the round's valuation at $1.4 trillion before it was lowered to $1.25 trillion.
Why it matters: Investor caution toward AI spending is now reaching the best-known AI company, ahead of its planned stock market listing.

Nvidia may guarantee debt for Nscale's Anthropic data center, reports say
The Information reports Nvidia is in talks to guarantee billions in debt for Nscale, a young AI cloud provider, and Bloomberg later corroborated it. The money would fund a West Virginia campus where Anthropic has signed a $44.6 billion deal for the first building, Nscale's IPO filing shows. According to The Information, Nvidia would step in and help find a buyer if Nscale defaulted on construction payments.
Why it matters: Chipmakers are taking on more of the financial risk of the AI building boom as investors grow wary.

Sebastian Thrun's AI engineering startup Dulo raises $130 million
Dulo, an AI startup from Google X co-founder Sebastian Thrun and Adrian Aoun, has raised $130 million, Aoun confirmed in a social media post. Its website says it builds foundation models, large general-purpose AI systems, tuned for hardware design work. Claude Code 2.1.316 phases out Opus 4.8 fast mode, adds team budgets
Anthropic's AI coding tool Claude Code has released version 2.1.316, which deprecates fast mode for the Opus 4.8 model. From November 30, 2026, fast mode requests on Opus 4.8 will return an error, and users are told to move to Opus 5.5. Admins can now give a group a single monthly spending pool, which applies in addition to each member's own limit.
Why it matters: Teams relying on Opus 4.8 fast mode have about a month to switch models before their requests start failing.

Binance loses about $6.3 billion in record crypto hack
Hackers stole about $6.3 billion in digital assets from crypto exchange Binance, more than four times the previous record theft. Blockchain analysis firms, including TRM Labs, link the attack to TraderTraitor, a hacking group tied to North Korea's government. Binance says the attackers got in partly by compromising the laptop of one of its engineers.
Why it matters: Anyone holding funds on a crypto exchange faces a growing risk from state-backed hacking groups, even on the biggest platforms.
